Bill Gates calls himself an “impatient optimist.” He believes that any serious problem is a new round of development if it is possible to find a solution. There are enough problems in this world, but when will we find the solutions? Bill Gates mentioned 3 things that will change the world in the next 20 years.
1. Innovations in the energy sector will reduce the price of energy and get rid of greenhouse gases
Instead of the miracle, “green” energetics will become a reality in 15 years. The widespread use of the solar and wind energy will enable mankind to solve two problems:
1. Affordable electricity for poor countries.
Electricity is the key to quality health and education in the poorest countries. African countries in sub-Saharan Africa are affected the most by the lack of electricity.
2. Reduction of the amount of greenhouse gases and their impact on the environment.
Coal-fired power stations are one of the main sources of greenhouse gases in Europe and the United States. The more there are greenhouse gases, the more disturbed is the heat balance of the planet. As a result, humanity suffers from drought, tsunamis and other natural disasters. The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere is possible to reduce by the means of the widespread use of “green” energy.
Bill Gates is urging people not to abandon nuclear energy and to work towards the development of its security.
2. The mankind will get rid of dangerous infectious diseases or reduce them to a minimum
The mankind is on the verge of getting rid of such diseases as polio, malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV. Bill Gates is confident that even cancer will cease to be a fatal disease in 30 years.Humanity has almost got rid of polio. In 2015, WHO recorded 96 polio cases in the world. Out of that number, 70 cases are wild polio recorded only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The remaining 26 cases in the world are vaccine-derived circulating poliovirus.
Measles, mumps, and rubella are also at the stage of extinction due to the vaccination.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has invested $775 million for 15 years of its existence in the fight against childhood infectious diseases.
3. The quantity and quality of educational services will change
Bill Gates believes that if poor countries have the problem in the educational system as a whole, the developed countries need a qualitative change in the approach to training. The millionaire is sure that the education system needs new tools to help students show their talents. Teachers need to explore new teaching techniques to keep the interest of their students.
Responsibility for the access to education lies on the state, but the quality should be dependent on private initiatives. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation supports a personalized approach to learning in the United States and provides funds for the training of talented children from poor families.
In his speeches at TED, Bill Gates talked about the prospects of world energetics and the training program for teachers. His enthusiasm can actually inspire everyone!
